Description
A collection that ranges between the sacred and the profane, reworking typical elements of Christian religious iconography.
Rosaries, crosses and ‘ex-votos’ refer to the Catholic imagery, deeply rooted in Sicilian popular culture.
The sacred heart symbolises unconditional divine love. The ‘ex voto’ represents the expression of immense joy and gratitude for a grace received, and is one of the most timeless forms of Sicilian popular devotion.
Each piece in the collection is strictly handmade in all its stages, from the study and design of the pattern, to its creation and decoration, to the selection of finishes and stones.
Donna Pidda reinterprets the Sicilian traditional icons (majolica tiles, pine cones, bullheads, prickly pear shovels and cart wheels) to bring to life vibrant and whimsical bijoux that lend a touch of typically Sicilian “warmth/colour” to any look. A collection that translates the colours and material of our land giving the wearer the opportunity not only to have a unique piece but also to take a piece of Sicily with them.
Techniques: Each clay piece is shaped, air-dried, smoothed, decorated with acrylic colours and polished with water-based paint.
