A collection that spaced between sacred and profane, reworking typical element of Christian religious iconography.
Rosaries, crosses and “ex voto” resent, in fact, to the catholic imaginary, deeply rooted in the Sicilian popular culture. The sacred heart symbolize the unconditional divine love.
The “ex voto” represents the expression of immense joy and gratitude for a grace received, and is one of the most enduring forms of popular Sicilian devotion.
Each piece in the collection is strictly handmade in all its stages, from the study and design of pattern, to its creation and decoration, to selection of the finishes and stones. Donna Pidda reinterprets the Sicilian traditional icons (majolica tiles, pine cons, Moor’s heads, prickly pear shovels and cart wheels) to bring to life vibrant and whimsical bijoux that lend a touch of typically Sicilian Warmth/colour to any look. A collection that translate the colours and the materials of our land giving the wearer the opportunity not only to have a unique piece but also to take a piece of Sicily with them.
Technique: Each clay piece is shaped, air-dried, smoothed, decorated with acrylic colours and polished with water based paint.
