Description
Citrus fruits, originally from China and India, had already arrived in Europe during Roman times, but were not really ‘domesticated’ and appreciated for their alimentary virtues until the arrival of the Arabs in the 9th century. While in ancient times they had mostly ornamental or religious functions, it was during their domination that the first citrus groves were planted in Sicily. Making use of new irrigation and cultivation techniques, the Arabs created splendid citrus ‘gardens’. In their understanding, in fact, there was no difference between a kitchen garden and an ornamental garden.
The cultivation of citrus fruits, favoured by the local climate and the fertility of the soil, immediately gave rise to a massive spread of these fruits throughout the island.
Oranges and lemons, although not indigenous, are, with their bright colours, among the most established symbols of Sicilian identity.
Each piece in the collection is strictly handmade in all its stages, from the study and design of the model, to its creation and decoration, to the selection of finishes and stones.
A collection that translates the colours and material of our land, giving the wearer the opportunity not only to have a unique piece but also to take a piece of Sicily with them.
Techniques: Each clay piece is shaped, air-dried, smoothed, decorated with acrylic colours and polished with water paint.
