Description
A collection dedicated to the Sicilian cart, an ancient means of rural transport, but also a vehicle of cultural transmission. Made of wood and beaten iron, it was entirely decorated with brightly coloured geometric or floral motifs. Even the wheels were carved and painted, and the sides contained paintings depicting historical, literary, religious or chivalric episodes. The cart was a travelling work of art.
The earrings in this collection are a real colour explosion.
Each piece in the collection is strictly handmade in all its stages, from the study and design of the pattern, to its creation and decoration, to the selection of finishes and stones.
Donna Pidda reinterprets the Sicilian traditional icons (majolica tiles, pine cones, bullheads, prickly pear shovels and cart wheels) to bring to life vibrant and whimsical bijoux that lend a touch of typically Sicilian “warmth/colour” to any look. A collection that translates the colours and material of our land giving the wearer the opportunity not only to have a unique piece but also to take a piece of Sicily with them.
Techniques: Each clay piece is shaped, air-dried, smoothed, decorated with acrylic colours and polished with water-based paint.
