Who is Donna Pidda?

In Cefalù is called ‘Donna Pidda’ the woman of denarii of the Sicilian cards.

An iconic figure, a strong woman aware of her own power. In the game of ‘7 and a half’, in fact, she is the card that wins over all. While in other regional variants the ‘8’, i.e. the jack, is usually a man, in Sicily (which has always been matriarchal) it is instead a woman.

The Donna Pidda holds a gold coin in her hand. Considering that in Sicilian dialect precious things are called ‘Ori‘, what better symbol to embody the preciousness of a bijoux made entirely by hand?
